Oh sorry...I thought I did post a video..maybe that was another site.

Honestly, the only good video I have is from May 17th Auto-X and that was with a broken exhaust (long story, broke at the cat so that was a fun 2 hour ride home). Will post, but it's loud so you can't hear anything but that.

Will get videos again when I get the exhaust fixed up.

No idea on power, but if I had to guess, I would say maybe 185hp and maybe 160ftlbs. It is pretty quick for a 4 banger.

I admire you hodge for going downing atlanta, but I still stand true to my turbo theory.

If you want power on tap, a nice, quick spooling hx35 or t3/t4 variant will really give you all the power you need on the m42/m44 and "most of the time" <--take that with a grain of salt... you can build a turbo m42/m44 for about 75% of what a supercharger would cost and still come out with a reliable, more powerful car.

Oh ya, hodge you need to come out here and let me drive your rig so you can stop my turbo evangelism :)

Ha!

You may indeed be able to build a kit for that price, but something tells me it won't be nearly as thought out or engineered like Downing's Supercharger kit. Turboing an M42 is possible, but IMO far more risky than throwing on an engineered out kit. And believe me, I was going to go the turbo route, but this opportunity came along and I could not pass on it. It still may not be a particularly fast car in today's world of V8's and 500bhp, but it is worlds of fun more than those heavy pigs.

Anyway, my new muffler hangers arrived today, so come Tuesday morning, in goes the E36 to get its exhaust rewelded on, and hung properly.

imo, DASC costs way too much. these kits run at about $4500 which is alot more than most matched up turbo kits would cost. and if you wanted s/c then i think there is a charger that edlebrock builds, which is what downing atlanta used for "their kit" u just have to put all the vac lines and other lines together yourself. and it can be had at a fraction of the cost of a dasc. with downing atlanta u pay for a name, just like any other "thought out" setups, just like how we pay for the name on "bbs" wheels..

That is not at all true. My DASC didn't cost anywhere near $4500.

Yeah, I am sure you could try piecing a kit together yourself, but at that point, might as well go turbo. It would be signifigantly easier. Plus, you would have to have your own intake manifold made for the blower, so that would cost money as well.

If you have never installed or seen the kit in person, then I recommend that you do so. It is well thought out, the machining work on the parts is of high quality, and it all went together quite easily.

but its also engineered by a racing company as a side project i believe. and for the money ~50 hp isnt worth it. it would be more cost efficient to turbo. but then again that is more work so your back at square one. either way its on your car, you like it thats all that counts bro.

Yes, Downing does have alot of racing history, as well as fabricating most of their own parts, soI'd say it definitely is well engineered out. Much better than I know I could have done.
