Plastic parts do not go in your engine!

I was at my Polish mechanic's yesterday and saw a silver E36 up on the rack getting a cooling overhaul. I learned that the lady came in complaining about the little needle that kept going int the red. I was happy to finally see the reason why everyone says to replace your water pump with a metal impeller.

Yowzers! How many miles on the car?

The plastic pump in mine ended up lasting about 120k miles (which was shortly after I bought the car) and was replaced to prevent this. That's as far as I've ever heard of one going.

I dont know the mileage but it was an earlier model, like a 94 or 95.

Which is why its one of the first things you replace if there isn't documented proof of this being done.
