Intake?????? help....

I have a completely stock 99 m3...i was thinkin stromung exhaust and intake...

one of my friends said that intake wont net any power gain...and that i shouldnt get one because it would be a waste of money...

soooo should i still put money into getting an intake? if so which one should i get? theres so many options not too sure which way to go...how much to spend....i dont know whats too much to spend on an intake...

comments? thoughts?

Your friend is partially right. It won't produce anything you will notice but if positioned right it will provide cooler air which is good for combustion and thus helping your car. Don't buy any brand name intakes because they are all stupidly over priced. Make your own, it will be cheaper and still provide the same effect and gains of the brand names at 1/4 the cost.

I just bought a '99 M3 that already had an aFe CAI installed. My other non-M3 E36's all had stock airboxes, and because the power difference is so great between the cars anyway I can't compare the difference the intakes make.

If you do install any sort of CAI you should install a heat shield--that allows your intake to bring in cold air, not the hot air off the engine.

CAIs are probably overrated, and I wouldn't have installed one if the car I bought didn't already have it. The exhaust would be a better place to start. I will say that the CAI adds a killer sound during acceleration.
