M52 TT S2 soon to run around the streets of Vegas!

Postby Gabe1103 » Sun Aug 10, 2008 8:20 pm

Hi, saw this website just yesterday and reading through the FI threads I find the people here are a lot more approachable and 'real' compared to the peeps over at BFC FI forum.

just want to share that i am waiting for my TT S2 kit to arrive this week and will have some questions to ask about going boost... i haven't posted this in the BFC FI forums since i'm a newb to boosting my M52 and I don't want to get the hostility treatment they provide to newbies like myself

boost on!

thanks!

$220 for AEM UEGO is a damn good price though!

Innovate or PLX. AEM is cheap for a reason- it doesn't use a real lab-grade sensor and is much less accurate.

Meth CAN add power. Tune your car to the bleeding edge of safe vs detonation on street gas, add water or meth and your back in the safe zone, it increases octane, not power, so you can run more timing, or be safer at the current timing (not usually unnecessary). It also cools the intake charge considerably, so it helps on heat soaked cars.

The most basic explanation is it increases det threshold through increasing octane, decreasing temps. Allows more safety with more timing. CAN make more power, not always will.

Thats almost right. Meth injection and water injection work slightly differently. Both work by increasing the knock threshold- methanol injection actually works by increasing the knock resistance of the A/F mix. Water cools the intake charge and also works to absorb some combustion heat during the power stroke, which increases the knock limit for the next cycle.

Meth inj is like over clocking a computer.

Is the PLX (Aem in general) really that innacurate? I also need wideband stat, and I was looking at a PLX. What would be a better bang for the buck?

PLX and AEM are not the same. The PLX is made by NGK. AEM's A/F meter is called the 'AEM UEGO II' or something.

The PLX or Innovate units are much better than the AEM. You can't get around using a lab-grade sensor- it is the only way to go. AEM doesnt, NGK and Innovate do.
