I picked up a turbocharger yesterday.. and it's HUGE.. most likely it's too huge. i was on another forum and all of the people said there's no way it would spool on my M50NV.. not even if i bore and stroke it out to 3L. perhaps i just didn't like that answer, but i want to see what the people around here have to say

From what i've been able to find online it seems to be an Airesearch T18A90. comp A/R is 0.96 turbine A/R is 1.32 should i try to sell this and find something smaller?

Ill leave others to answer your question, but i can tell you that looks like something you would find on a turbo diesel truck. I doubt it would perform well, not even to speak of the amount of lag you would deal with.

yea.. it's pretty much something that would be found on a turbo diesel. and the displacement size for engines is somewhere between 3-12L..

i actually am not so sure those A/R's i found are correct.. they were the A/R's of the housings..

i was reading turbo specs on garrett's website.. and it looks close to a GT47.. here's a little comparison:

T18A90 compressor: 88.9mm Ind. 134.62mm Exd. turbine: 133.5mm
GT47 compressor: 88.0mm Ind. 117.6mm Exd. turbine: 92.7mm

though the turbine seems to be a bigger. Garrett seems to specify the GT47 for engine displacements 2.5L-10L

would it be possible to have the turbocharger rebuilt using a 60 trim turbine housing and wheel? that way it'd be .63 A/R turbine 1.32 A/R compressor = huge power but spoolable on my engine

Dude... Dude! if u can afford to bore and stroke save ur cash n buy the right turbo. You will have better results. I drive a 12 liter turbo diesel at work and it has similar size turbos and they take a few seconds to spool up. You would have to have your 3 liter at 10'000 rpm to even spin it. Please dear god do not put this on your bimmer!
