OIL COOLER??

Postby BLAZNM3 » Wed Nov 16, 2011 7:17 pm

Hey guys,
So here is the deal. I currently got the euro oil cooler all hooked up and dialed on my 99 e36 turbo. I was wondering how much more cooling will I get out of the C&R racing oil cooler. Ya they claim its better because they uped the capacity and the routing of the oil. But has anyone seen any real temp drop from this? Or is it just as good as the euro oil cooler? Thanks guys!

O forgot to add, what about replacing the oil thermostat with a diverter valve? They Claim drops in 30 plus degree?!?!? What do you guys say?

Well what is your oil temp at currently? What makes you think it needs to drop more? As i understand it the ideal number is around 180-190F for oil. Here's an interesting article on the subject:

Also the slickest way to attach the oil cooler is with a S54 oil filter housing with the pre tapped fittings. You can try to drill and tap your current housing if you have the equipment (an S50/52 and S54 housings are identical except for those fittings). Many also will use a diverter valve or a aftermarket oil filter cap with pre tapped for AN fittings.

I use to run at 180 but since I converted to some thicker oil I run 190 soild. Just figured since we are boosted it would be better for it to run a bit cooler???? As far as my oil cooler setup I am running the s54 euro oil cooler set up with the lines built in and a housing to run AN lines attached on the bottom.

What youve got is probably the best set up out there. Theres no reason you would need a larger cooler, especially if youre already running between 180-190. I take it you already have an oil temp gauge?

Yes I have an oil temp gauge and a few more, I have oil pressure, water temp, boost, afr, volts. So no on the bigger cooler.... What about swapping out that oil thermostat for a diverted valve?
