DIY: EWS Disabling for the 413 Silver Label DME

Postby Patrón » Tue Oct 28, 2008 12:16 pm

Here are some simple steps to disabling the 413 silver label EWS (security device).
Remove wiring harness from ECU (use basic DIY instructions for ECU removal/chip install) making sure to disconnect battery.
Remove the metal tie strap

Remove the small screw

identify the very small numbers on the harness (circled in yellow)
find 56
Count over to the 66th wire and it should be a green wire (sometimes a black and purple)
regardless, it's the 66th wire that needs to be cut (see red numbers)

reinstall everything in reverse and tie wrap the plastic holder (and make sure to use black electric tape to cover the exposed wires on the harness).

reinstall harness to ecu and connect battery and try to start the car. Mine fired like any normal day without cranking.

huge thanks to the guys at TRM (The Racer's Market)that assisted with helping me locate the pin/wire on the harness.

I bought mine with the tune for 93 octane, 7,200 rpm rev limit, 21.5# inj. and 3.5 euro hfm.

awesome Aaron, 7,200 seems high, but doesn't seem too high. let me know how it goes.. why did you get rid of your old software?

i've been wanting the TRM tune for some time now. my old tunes were at 7,100. i try to change when the tach gets to 7k so 7100 or 7200 doesnt really matter.

drove the car for a bit this evening and it feels fantastic. i'm guessing the 52 tempature outside has alot to do with it.

Sorry for bringing this back from the dead and probably asking a dumb question. But whats the purpose of cutting that wire?? Is it a must do if you add a chip to your e36?
