08/13/08 – Carnage

So it has started… car is a 1996 328iS all stock with 96.5k on the clock.

Started at 10am PST and finished 1am with around 2.5 – 3 hours total break time (food, beer, cigarettes, on-line/phone parts ordering, and some chit-chat)

This was my first time so almost all credit goes to Stan (Godfather), Marc (Strad), Jessie (JDizzle)

What we accomplished…

Took out front exterior pieces

Removed Intake Mani

Removed Entire Cooling

Removed Valve Cover

Removed entire exhaust

Removed Cams

Removed Head

Installed Intercooler

Cut bumper support

Cut bumper cover

Removed Tranny

Installed m3 flywheel & clutch kit

…thread will be updated regularly

Here are some pics… any comments/advice/criticisms are welcome and much appreciated… sorry for crappy cam… all I had available…

Nice progress. Your head and valves look to be in pretty awesome shape.

Gently grind the top of the block with a soft pad air tool sander to get all the junk off to prepare the gasket and head. Your using ARP head studs right?

No offense....

But don't do that. Abrasives and matings surfaces are a no-no.

Very nice progress i duno bout grinding any of that just do the best you can with a gentle gasket scraper or a green tuff pad last thing u need is an uneven surface.
